finger coils benefits & how to MAINTAIN them

Finger coils can offer several benefits for curly hair, especially for tighter curls. Here are some of them:

- Definition: Finger coils help define the natural curl pattern, creating well-formed coils that showcase the beauty of the hair's texture.

- Length Retention: This hairstyle can aid in retaining length because it minimizes manipulation and reduces the risk of breakage.

- Versatility: Finger coils can be styled in various ways, such as updos, ponytails, or simply worn down, allowing for versatility in your look.

- Low Maintenance: Once finger coils are set, they require minimal daily maintenance, making it a convenient option for those with busy lifestyles.

- Protection: Coiling the hair in this manner can help protect the ends from damage and prevent split ends.

- Styling Without Heat: Finger coils offer a heat-free way to achieve defined curls, reducing the risk of heat damage to your hair.

Maintaining finger coils is crucial to keep them looking fresh and defined. Here's how to do it:

- Moisturize Regularly: Curly hair tends to be dry, so it's essential to keep it well-moisturized. Use a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to hydrate your coils daily or as needed.

- Avoid Excess Manipulation: Avoid touching or constantly re-twisting your finger coils. The more you manipulate them, the more likely they are to frizz or lose their definition.

- Cover at Night: Protect your coils while sleeping by wearing a satin or silk bonnet or using a satin pillowcase. This helps prevent friction and frizz.

- Refresh with a Mist: If your coils start to lose definition or feel dry during the week, use a water and leave-in conditioner mix in a spray bottle to refresh and reshape them.

I personally found that mousse works perfectly when getting finger coils done or with my clients, It gives the hair a firm but not too hard look and after a few days, with water, you can reactivate the mousse and retwist if needed for a fresh look.

Something to keep in mind is that after a few weeks with finger coils, it can tangle your hair, so be mindful of how long you keep this style if your plan is not to end with locs. When the time comes to wash your hair, I recommend detangling your hair before washing it to avoid breakage.

Consistent care and maintenance are key to keeping your finger coils looking their best without damaging your hair. Adjust your routine based on your hair's specific needs and preferences.
