fall in love with your curls

Fall is my favorite season! I love the colors, the cool breeze, the smell, and of course, anything pumpkin spice! ๐Ÿ‚ But with fall comes an obvious weather change that can affect our curls, and I want to explain why that happens and how we can make things better.

In the summer, higher humidity helps curly hair retain moisture, making curls appear fuller and more defined. But as autumn arrives, the air becomes drier and less humid, reducing the natural moisture available for your hair. Since curly hair is already prone to dryness, it can lose its natural elasticity, leading to dryness and frizz.

The reduced humidity and cool air in autumn make it harder for curly hair to retain the moisture it needs. This is why curls can feel drier and less defined during this season.

As temperatures drop, we rely more on indoor heating, which can also dehydrate curly hair. Heaters suck moisture out of the air, making hair more vulnerable to frizz and breakage.

Here are some fall hair care tips for curly hair:

  • Hydration is key: Now is the time to switch to heavier, more hydrating products like deep conditioners and leave-in treatments. Deep condition once a week to give your curls a hydration boost.

  • Seal in moisture: After washing, apply a water-based leave-in conditioner to lock in moisture.

  • Protective styles: When wearing protective styles, give your curls a break in between. Donโ€™t forget to wash your hair to keep your scalp clean and rehydrate your curls.

  • Trim regularly to avoid split ends: Colder weather can lead to brittle hair and split ends. Regular trims every 4-6 months will help prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft, keeping your curls healthy and full of life.

  • Scalp care is essential: Your scalp can become dry and flaky during fall. Include a gentle scalp scrub or massage in your routine to exfoliate dead skin cells and stimulate blood flow.

  • Sleep on silk or satin: Silk or satin pillowcases reduce friction while you sleep, preventing breakage and frizz. A silk or satin bonnet can also protect your curls overnight.

  • Hydrate from within: Drink plenty of water to nourish your hair from the inside out!

Fall in love with your curls every day by sticking to your routine. ๐Ÿ
